Calling all writers, musicians and musicologists

Deadline for paper submissions: March 1st, 2010

The Société de musique contemporaine du Québec (SMCQ) and the bilingual journal Circuit, musiques contemporaines are proud to announce the second international scholarly essay-writing competition, the “Concours Hommage”, which is held biannually alongside the “Tribute Series” of the Montréal / New Music Festival. Every two years, a composer is honoured in the MNM festival, and Circuit gives a special place to this composer in one of their issues. It is in this tribute issue that the winning essay will be published.

This year, writers, musicians and musicologists are invited to submit texts dealing with composer Gilles Tremblay. The jury, whose co-presidents are Jean Lesage (McGill University) and Jonathan Goldman (University of Victoria), will meet in April 2010 to choose the winning text, which will appear in Circuit’s Fall 2010 issue (vol. 20, no. 3). The selected writer will win a prize of $1000 CAD, in addition to the usual honorarium given to contributors of the journal. The SMCQ and Circuit, musiques contemporaines will then ensure that this article is as widely disseminated as possible.

Terms of application
