Graduate Music Symposium Call for Papers: "Perspectives on Performance"

Feb. 11-12, 2011

Stony Brook University welcomes graduate students from all disciplines to submit paper or lecture-recital proposals on various aspects of musical performance. The symposium will feature a keynote address by Dr. Ellen Rosand (Yale), as well as a performance of Handel’s Acis and Galatea by Stony Brook’s award-winning Baroque Ensemble, directed by Arthur Haas.

Suggested topics for our symposium include:

· Performers and their publics

· Pedagogy and performance practice

· Theorizing performance

· Ethnographies of performances and performers

· Performing as embodied knowledge

· Identity politics and performance

· Performers and composers

· Liveness and mediation
